PHOTOGRAPHY
behind the lens
Tony Potts’ photographic practice is grounded in an enduring fascination with sensuality, not as spectacle, but as a quiet, fleeting state of being. Working primarily in black and white, his images explore the subtle language of the body: posture, gesture, expression, and the moments of intimacy that pass almost unnoticed.
As Potts has often observed, “Sexuality makes itself too obvious. Sensuality seduces us through subtle body language, looks and gestures. It’s a brief moment of intimacy that reveals the soul. It’s that which I seek to capture.”
This sensibility runs throughout his work from fashion editorials and nudes to his long-running documentation of Sydney’s Bondi Beach, where elegance, vulnerability and presence converge.
Spanning more than four decades, Potts’ photographs form a considered archive of human connection, desire and place. These images are not constructed for immediacy, but for endurance: moments held just long enough to be felt, remembered, and quietly lived with.
